Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
The short version: Loupe scans web pages entirely inside your browser. We don't run analytics, set tracking cookies, sell data, or require an account. The only time anything leaves your device is when you choose to use the optional AI explanations, or enter a Pro license key.
What runs locally
Loupe's accessibility scanning is powered by axe-core and runs 100% in your browser. The contents of the pages you scan are analysed on your own device and are never sent to us for scanning. Your scan results, saved reports, theme preference, and Pro status are stored in your browser's local storage — not on our servers.
How long that data is kept, and how to delete it
We set no expiry on it, because we cannot: everything above lives in your own browser's local storage for the site you are reading this on. It stays until you remove it. It does not sync between browsers or devices, and it never reaches us, which also means we cannot delete it for you — there is nothing on our side to delete.
To remove all of it, clear site data for getloupe.dev in your browser's settings, under privacy and site data. Uninstalling the extension removes what the extension stored. Using a private or incognito window keeps nothing after you close it.
The keys we write, if you want to check or clear them individually: a11ylens_pro, a11ylens_tier, a11ylens_license, a11ylens_projects, a11ylens_clients, a11ylens_brands, a11ylens_brand_active, a11ylens_brand_name, a11ylens_brand_logo, a11ylens_theme and loupe_quick_scans. Clearing them signs you out of Pro on that browser; your license key still works, so you can paste it again.
Optional AI explanations
If you click "Explain in plain English" or "Suggest a fix," the details of that specific issue — including the relevant HTML snippet of the failing element — are sent to our server and on to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the response. This data is used only to produce that explanation; we do not store it, and Anthropic does not use API data to train its models. The rest of the page is never sent. If a page contains sensitive information, simply don't use the AI feature on it.
License verification
If you purchase Pro and enter a license key, that key is sent to our server to verify it with our payments provider, Polar. After that, roughly once a week, the report page re-sends the same key to check the subscription is still active — otherwise a cancelled plan would stay unlocked forever in whichever browser it was first entered. That check sends nothing but the key, and if it cannot reach us it leaves your access alone rather than locking you out. Payments, billing, and sales tax are handled entirely by Polar, our merchant of record — we never see or store your card details. See Polar's own privacy policy for how they handle payment data.
What we don't collect
- No user accounts or logins.
- No analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising cookies.
- No selling or sharing of personal data — ever.
- No collection of the websites you scan.
Third-party services
Loupe relies on a small number of services, used only as described above: Anthropic (AI explanations), Polar (payments, licensing & merchant of record), and Vercel (website hosting). Standard server logs at our host may temporarily record request metadata (such as IP address) for security and reliability.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
